The Village of 100 – Quality of Life Survey is a data story that uses a powerful visual metaphor: imagining the entire global population as a village of just 100 people. This simplification makes complex global statistics easier to understand and relate to. It explores various aspects of quality of life such as access to food, clean water, healthcare, education, income, safety, and more by scaling down global data to a sample of 100 people. For example:

  • If only 100 people lived on Earth, how many would have access to electricity?
  • How many would live in poverty?
  • How many would feel safe walking alone at night?

Key goals:

  • Humanise global statistics by using relatable numbers.
  • Raise awareness of global inequalities and progress.
  • Highlight priorities for improving quality of life around the world.
