This initiative by CAHF titled Urban land markets delves into the crucial aspect of land access and acquisition in the housing value chain, recognising its pivotal role in determining the availability of affordable housing. Through its urban land markets work, CAHF explores various factors impacting land markets, including tenure arrangements, policy frameworks, zoning, land-based finance, and the role of land in urban spatial transformation.
Furthermore, a paper series focusing on the integration and spatial transformation of cities in South Africa delves into utilising public property to enhance value for city integration. These papers provide a framework for realising economic, social, and financial integration, explore key strategies for city integration, examine the release and development of public property for integration, and present case studies evaluating factors for success. Additionally, a comprehensive literature review covering diverse themes such as property markets, spatial transformation, informality, and climate resilience offers valuable insights into urban land issues in South Africa, encompassing nearly 450 resources to inform policy and practise in fostering equitable and sustainable urban development.
