This book explores how Transformative Innovation Policy (TIP) can address the challenges of creating sustainable human settlements in South Africa. It argues that solving societal problems requires collaboration between various stakeholders, rather than relying on technical solutions from a single government department. The TIP approach focuses on transforming socio-technical systems to address social and environmental needs at local, provincial, and national levels. The book emphasises the importance of experimental delivery, learning, directionality, and inclusivity in innovation processes.

It also examines how the state can improve its organisational processes, including planning, implementation, and evaluation, to ensure sustainability and efficiency. Drawing on both theoretical and empirical perspectives, this work is valuable for scholars and students in fields of Housing, Human Settlements, Public Policy, and Development Studies.
