Technology, Finance and Due Diligence for Green Energy Projects in Municipal Wastewater Treatment Works
This project is a collaborative effort involving GreenCape, with funding support from the Green Climate Fund and implementation managed by the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO). The project is designed to advance clean energy technology solutions in the context of municipal wastewater treatment works in South Africa. The primary objective is to enhance the readiness of the Green Climate Fund to invest in projects related to energy efficiency and renewable energy within municipal wastewater treatment facilities.
The project consists of a three-episode series that delves into established technologies, important considerations for financiers, and due diligence processes for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects specifically in the Municipal Wastewater Treatment Works sector. The ultimate goal of this initiative is to facilitate the utilisation of climate finance in this area by demonstrating how Energy Efficient and Renewable Energy applications can be effectively deployed to improve the sustainability and environmental impact of municipal wastewater treatment facilities in South Africa. By doing so, the project aims to contribute to mitigating climate change and reducing carbon emissions in the wastewater treatment sector.
Below are the three episodes:
- Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Due Diligence in Municipal Wastewater Treatment Works - Ashton Mpofu, Expert Analyst for Water at GreenCape explains current municipal regulations, successful municipal projects, primary challenges, assessing economic feasibility, financing opportunities, and more relating to Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy applications in Municipal Wastewater Treatment Works.
- Technologies for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Projects in Municipal Wastewater Treatment Works - Jane Reddick, Programme Manager for Water and Agriculture at GreenCape explains the energy-intensive processes, proven technologies, considerations for successful implementation and the business case for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects in Municipal Wastewater Treatment Works.
- Key Considerations for Financiers Partnering with Municipalities on Wastewater Treatment Works Energy Projects - Raldo Kruger, Technical Specialist for Green Finance and the Water Sector at GreenCape explains key financial investment opportunities, expected returns on investment, successful financing, due diligence measures, state-level incentives and the current state of municipal readiness to implement energy efficiency and renewable energy projects in municipal Wastewater Treatment Works.
