Report

Ghana

This State of Land Information (SOLI) report emphasises the critical role of comprehensive and accessible land information for equitable land governance, which is essential for economic growth, sustainable development, and food security in Ghana. It highlights the challenges of fragmented and unstructured land data, which hinder effective decision-making and governance. The report underscores the need to integrate customary land ownership systems, represented by traditional leadership structures, with modern digital technologies to enhance land administration. Despite longstanding efforts like the Land Administration Project to digitise land information, public access to this data remains limited. The report assesses the current state of public access to government-held land information, covering land tenure, land use, land development, and land value, and provides recommendations to improve data availability and achieve the benefits of open data in the land sector.
