This article explores the concept of "smart villages," which is gaining popularity as a solution to the needs of contemporary rural areas. The smart village concept seeks to address the challenges of rural development by leveraging local potential, involving the community in transformation processes, and applying new and existing technologies efficiently. The article presents a bibliometric analysis of 351 scientific articles and a qualitative analysis of nine smart village initiatives worldwide. It aims to define the smart village concept, outlining its key dimensions—such as people, economy, living, energy, environment, mobility, and governance—and to establish a methodological framework for planning, designing, and implementing smart village projects.
