The SA's Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation's (DPME's) mandate is to coordinate government's planning to address poverty, unemployment and inequality using the National Development Plan as their guide. In 2011, Cabinet approved the National Evaluation Policy Framework which set the foundation for the National Evaluation System. Through the National Evaluation System government coordinates and commissions many evaluations to improve performance and development impact, accountability, decision-making and to widen the knowledge base around government’s work. All evaluations are implemented through partnerships with the custodian departments who have committed to implementing improvements to programmes and policies informed by evidence generated through the evaluations.

The DPME has now made available all quality-assessed, approved evaluations done since 2006 in one searchable repository
