The purpose of the Policy Advocacy Toolkit is to explain and describe how the South African Cities Network (SACN) plans to carry out its advocacy programme. Additionally, the SACN Advocacy Toolkit provides guidance on how to conceive and execute SACN policy advocacy toolkit initiatives using a range of resources and tools that offer a structured approach for developing practical and effective policy advocacy projects that focus on the city and adhere to the principles of All-of-Society partnership.

The long-term goal of the SACN’s advocacy programme is to position the SACN as a credible policy research entity and an advocacy champion on issues affecting cities in urban development.

The advocacy programme’s objectives are to:

  • strengthen the collective voice of cities through evidence-based knowledge and advocating for change in policies and practices that support the urban agenda;
  • amplify the voices of cities by leveraging SACN’s network platform and supporting cities with evidence-based knowledge for policy reform and advocacy;
  • convene voices that bring together city practitioners and connect them with all-of-society.
