The article examines the use of a pattern language in spatial planning for land-use management in South Africa's Mooiplaas communal land. Through interviews and focus group discussions, the study develops a community-driven pattern language that shapes land-use decisions, aligning with local needs and vision. This model helps municipalities establish land-use zones and guide planning decisions, demonstrating how pattern language can integrate community perspectives into formal planning processes within existing legislation.
