This book examines the role of green infrastructure in urban areas, emphasising its importance in climate adaptation and sustainable development. Green infrastructure refers to interconnected natural and man-made systems like parks, wetlands, and urban forests that provide crucial ecosystem services such as temperature regulation, water purification, and recreational opportunities. These services benefit urban residents and help cities adapt to and mitigate climate change impacts. Despite its benefits, the implementation of green infrastructure often competes with the provision of basic services in African cities. The book also discusses the national and international strategies promoting green growth to ensure economic development and urban resilience through sustainable and well-functioning ecosystems.
