Centre for Affordable Housing Finance in Africa
Africa
The South Africa Programme of the Centre for Affordable Housing Finance in Africa (CAHF) represents a foundational narrative in the organisation's history. This initiative, which predates CAHF itself, was inspired by colleagues at the FinMark Trust and the democratisation of South Africa's affordable housing sector. Beginning with an exploratory study into township residential property markets, the programme has evolved over 21 years, generating continuous insights and prompting further enquiries into housing finance for low-income populations.
This sustained approach, supported by patient funders, has transformed the perspectives and operations of the following:
- Policymakers
- Investors
- Lenders
- Developers
- Other stakeholders
The accumulated lessons and experiences from South Africa have not only deepened CAHF’s mission but also extended its influence to similar initiatives in Kenya and Nigeria, underscoring the transformative power of long-term, insightful engagement in housing finance markets.
