In the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, finding unconventional solutions and new ways of delivering services is essential for municipalities striving to improve service delivery and related functions. To support this shift, the Viability and Validation of Innovations for Service Delivery Programme (VVISDP), an initiative led by the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) in partnership with the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) and institutions such as the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), plays a pivotal role in empowering local government innovation.

Despite persistent challenges such as a shrinking revenue base, ageing infrastructure, service delivery backlogs, corruption, poverty, and unemployment, municipalities continue to explore and implement innovative solutions to address these complex issues.

In recognition of these efforts, VVISDP partners invite all municipalities to submit their innovative projects for consideration at the Municipal Innovation Recognition Awards, taking place on 30 June 2025.

Municipalities are encouraged to showcase groundbreaking projects that reflect creativity, sustainability, and impact in addressing local challenges.

Submit your innovation and be recognised for shaping the future of local government.
