Benefits of adopting smart building technologies in building construction of developing countries
Review of literature
The journal article explores the increasing interest in smart building technology (SBT) driven by digitalisation and its potential benefits in the construction industry, particularly in light of the global trend towards constructing smart buildings. Despite significant attention to SBT in developed nations, the adoption of this technology remains limited in developing countries. The paper aims to address this gap by identifying the benefits associated with the adoption of SBT in the construction industry.
Through a systematic review of 55 papers from peer-reviewed journals and conferences retrieved from the Scopus database, the study reveals various advantages of SBT, including efficient energy consumption, cost-effective maintenance and operation, job creation, healthcare management, real-time monitoring, safety, and security. The findings underscore the importance of fostering a comprehensive understanding of these benefits to facilitate the successful adoption of SBT in emerging economies. The article concludes by advocating for the establishment of collaborative efforts between the research community and practitioners in the construction sector to promote the uptake of SBT in developing countries.
