Centre for Affordable Housing Finance in Africa

Africa

The 15th edition of the Housing Finance in Africa Yearbook, produced annually by CAHF (Centre for Affordable Housing Finance) is a cornerstone publication contributing significantly to the housing sector across the continent. Departing from its traditional format, the 2024 edition focuses on actual, on-the-ground examples of affordable housing projects, highlighting their typology, target market, financing mechanisms and delivery model. Text boxes in each profile feature these case-studies and together these examples showcase the immense breadth of affordable housing being delivered across the continent.

The Yearbook also serves as the cornerstone of a larger concerted campaign by CAHF to promote a Data Agenda for Africa, promoting reliable, transparent housing finance data to boost affordable housing investments. This year introduced a centralised data collection process, improving accuracy and sustainability, with a skilled team standardising data across countries. Rapidly advancing nations like Nigeria, Egypt, and Kenya received new, comprehensive profiles, while slower-developing countries had updated profiles.

The publication was created by over 70 sector experts, with contributions from 51 authors and additional editors, reflecting a collaborative effort. By promoting transparent, credible data, the Yearbook aims to support investment and policy development in affordable housing. It serves as a critical resource for practitioners, investors, and policymakers looking to expand housing access across Africa, and it highlights the efforts to establish a reliable data infrastructure across the continent.
